The history of our city 府中の歴史

We biked to a small museum in our city after our counseling session.
First, we learned a little bit of stars and wild life at the planetarium.
At the planetarium, usually there are two parts.
The first part is an explanation of the stars we can see in this season.
And the second part is just ... a regular short movie.
It was good this time.
The staff sounded like she was familiar with the constellations.
The movie was also "not bad".
It was filmed from the perspectives from the animals.
But don't ask me why they had an animal movie at the planetarium.
It's spring vacation now.

After enjoying the planetarium, we looked around the history museum upstairs.
The history of our city, Fuchu(府中) is older than I thought.

It was around 700 B.C. when an administration office(国府) was placed in Fuchu,
the center of the country called Musashi(武蔵の国).

In the 12th century, Fuchu(府中) was located on one of the big main roads
between the capital at that moment, Kamakura (鎌倉), and the northern cities.

It was in the Meiji period (明治時代) when City of Fuchu became as today.
Schooling started in 1875.
The first railway, which was run by a private company opened in 1916.

I am kind of proud of our city now.
I didn't know Fuchu had such a long history.

  1. I was also surprised at the long history of the place.
Since most buildings marked as having historical importance around here seem to be built in the 16th century (at the earliest) I keep falling under the impression that there were no buildings before them.

However, the earliest finds of human activity in these parts are from more than 20000 years ago.
    Fascinating stuff.
